Baby Sadie’s newborn gallery has a little of everything I love to photograph: a sleepy curl, an alert expression, and the way a newborn’s whole hand fits around one finger. Her Greater Boston area session shows how much variety can come from a few simple setups.

Ivory newborn portraits, asleep and awake
In the first portrait, Sadie is curled up with a tiny knitted bunny on a light backdrop. The cream tones keep the focus on her face and the little toes tucked beside the bunny. The awake portrait has a different feel. Her eyes are open, one hand is lifted, and the white wrap leaves room to see the movement in her shoulders and arms.

The little details
Sadie’s hand wrapped around an adult finger gives a sense of scale that a full-length portrait can’t capture. I also love the frame of her feet held between adult hands. Both photographs bring you close enough to see the creases in her toes and the way her fingers curl.

A quiet portrait in a parent’s arms
In the parent portrait, Sadie sleeps across two arms with her hand hanging loose. The warm tan shirt and simple framing draw your eye to how small she is and how comfortably she fits there.
